How do I set up emails on an android device?

This article provides three different methods for setting up your SCU emails, when using an Android device.


Email Address Formats

Staff = firstname.lastname@scu.edu.au e.g. john.smithville@scu.edu.au

Students = first initial for firstname + dot(.) + full surname + dot(.) + number@student.scu.edu.au e.g. j.smithville.10@student.scu.edu.au. How do I find my SCU username and SCU email address?


Outlook App

Step 1: Install the Outlook for Android app from the Google Play Store and then open it. Tap Get Started if this is your first time

Otherwise, to add another email account, open the Menu More button > Settings Settings > Add Account > Add Email Account

Step 2: Outlook may detect your Google accounts. Tap Skip

Step 3: Tap Allow to confirm offline access and any other prompts

Step 4: Tap Continue.  Enter yourSCU email address e.g. f.smithville.10@student.scu.edu.au or fred.smithville@scu.edu.au. Enter your email account password and tap Sign In or Next

Step 5: Accept any prompts for permission you may receive, including for approve your sign-in request; you will either do this via the authentication method you have previously configured e.g. Microsoft Authenticator App. If you haven't setup a second authentication method; it will take you through a wizard to configure see Multi-Factor Authentication - MFA @ SCU!



Built-In Mail App

The below screen shots have been taken from a Samsung Galaxy, other android devices should have similar styled screens. 

Step 1: Open your standard email application on your device.  Select Add new account.


Step 2:

Enter the following:

Email: Enter your SCU email address

Password: Enter your SCU password

Click Sign In


Step 3: Select the account: Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync or Outlook


Step 4: Agree to the security setting. Click Apply

Accept any prompts for permission you may receive, including for approve your sign-in request; you will either do this via the authentication method you have previously configured e.g. Microsoft Authenticator App. If you haven't setup a second authentication method; it will take you through a wizard to configure see Multi-Factor Authentication - MFA @ SCU!



Step 5: Click Activate at the security features screen


Step 6:  Your email account is now setup


Step 1: Open your standard email application on your device.  Select Add new account.


Step 2:

Enter the following:

Email: Enter your SCU email address

Password: Enter your SCU password

Click Manual Setup


Step 3: Select the account: Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync or Outlook


Step 4: Select the exchange server settings

Email Address:Enter your SCU email address

Domain\Username :Enter your SCU email address

Exchange Server: outlook.office365.com

Click Sign In


Step 5: Agree to the security setting. Click Apply

Step 6: Click Activate at the security features screen


Step 7:  Your email account is now setup

Troubleshooting

Try removing the account Built-In Mail App or Outlook App and starting again
