Create new H5Ps - CONTENT TRANSFERED TO LIVE SITE

This article covers the following topics:

Making your first H5P

First time users

Your H5P account is created the first time that you log into H5P through a Blackboard/MySCU learning site.

When creating a new H5P for a module, there are two main ways to approach it:

  1. add the H5P directly within the module in Blackboard by using the Plus Button within an Item, or
  2. create a H5P via h5p.com and insert it into a content item within a Blackboard afterwards.

Even though the latter option adds an extra step it has the benefit of a larger display to work in which may provide a better overview. The video below goes through the process of creating a H5P with an overview of both options.

Adding a H5P through Blackboard

Existing or new H5Ps can be added via Blackboard via each module page. At the top of the page, click Build Content then select Item. Then click the Plus Button in the tool bar of the description box and select H5P Content. Refer to the images below

Changing content types

If you change your mind you can click at the top of the page on the content type you have selected, and choose a different content type. Please note that changing content types will delete any work on the existing H5P interactive.

Organising your H5P Content

  1. Create a folder
Before you start creating H5Ps (and for good housekeeping), click on New Folder and name it with the UNIT CODE that you are working on.

  2. Use informative titles.
It is highly recommended you use a suitable naming convention to title all the H5P interactives you create. This will assist you to find and share your H5Ps with others in the future and for support. For any unit related H5P interactive, a good naming convention to use is  'unitcode_m0X_act0X', e.g. STYL1001_m01_act1_1.

Which H5P is right for my module?

There are numerous options for interactive H5P content and it can be difficult to know which one might suit the purpose best with limited experience using different H5Ps. When choosing which H5P to use it is important to keep the learning outcomes of the activity, module and unit in mind. For a detailed overview of different H5Ps and their purpose, see: Choosing a H5P/H5P types
