Text (Typography)
Part of the reason for developing and implementing Content Styler Version 2 is how it formats text to create a cleaner layout and thereby provide students with an improved learning experience.
How the Content Styler Version 2 formats text is not entirely different how it worked in previous versions however it might still be valuable to go through the information included in this article.
One of the most noticeable differences is that the Content Styler Version 2 now formats text into a narrow view (what's the best way to describe this) rather than extending to the full width of the page (is this a good page to mention this?)
Text that is added via a Blackboard item whether it is typed directly into the item or copied over from a Word document, will automatically reformat according to the Content Styler Version 2 once "Edit Mode" is turned off.
Text automatically reformatted to font/size when formatting is cleared...
Always clear formatting when copying from a Word document
When copying text from a Word document into a Blackboard item, it is crucial to always clear formatting in order for the styler to reformat the text font/size so that all your text/content will look uniform. When you copy text from a Word document a pop-up of whether to remove or keep formatting will automatically appear. Choose "Remove Formatting".
If you have added content already that is not formatting properly once "Edit Mode" is turned off. Mark all of the text then click the button shown in the screenshot below. This will remove formatting. Is this part useful?
Start with a Learning Plan
It is always a good idea to start with a learning plan in a Word document when writing/developing a new Blackboard unit.
You can access a Learning Plan Template in Module 2: Designing Unit Modules of the ISCM Blackboard site (Link?) or through your Educational Designer.
Alternatively, you can send an email to ctl@scu.edu.au
The table below provides a visual of what text looks like in "Academic view" (Edit Mode on) and "Student view" (Edit Mode off/Student view).
Replace screenshots with ones from Shelley's module?
