Meaningful feedback using Feedback Studio

The following article discusses providing student feedback through Turnitin Feedback Studio to support efficient digital marking and feedback to students using a feedback summary, Quickmarks and text comments.

For details on navigating to student Turnitin submissions in Feedback Studio, see Marking assessment using Turnitin Feedback Studio.

What type of feedback does feedback Studio Support?

 Turnitin provides two main types of feedback;

  1. Summary feedback: overall voice or text comments about the student's work
  2. Direct feedback: individualised feedback directed at certain sections of students' written work, which can be linked to rubric criteria.

Ideally, an assignment will include both types of feedback. Given the time-intensive nature of providing direct feedback, markers may decide to minimise the amount of feedback provided or only focus on certain sections of the student's paper. The following article explains how both types of feedback can be provided to students.

How does feedback help?

Good feedback not only helps students improve, it also reduces arguments about how a graded result was determined by drawing attention to what was present and what was lacking about the work. Quality feedback also supports faculty moderation processes.

Explicitly teach Students about feedback

Don't assume students will know that Turnitin feedback is available for a written assignment. Spend the time to talk to students about the importance of accessing and reviewing their Turnitin assignment feedback as an essential part of being a lifelong learner and succeeding in their studies.

Feedback Summary

The Turnitin Feedback Summary provides overall Voice and Text Comments about the student's assignment. Students often say they enjoy hearing a person talking them through feedback as this is more personal, so consider using voice comments.
