Types of assessment
Choosing what type of assessment to use can be daunting and we often default to what we know (primarily written assessments in higher education). However, allowing students the opportunity to show what they know in a variety of ways can support engaged and authentic learning.
The Guide to selecting appropriate assessment methods is a good place to start.
ePortfolios
An ePortfolio is an electronic collection of evidence assembled and managed by the user that demonstrates their learning to different audiences, both during their course and after graduation.
The Blackboard portfolio tool is a simple to use portfolio that is available to all staff and students. It enables users to collect and organise documents and other files (known as artefacts) representative of their work both over the duration of their study and beyond. A portfolio offers a means to demonstrate formative and/or summative progress and achievement.
