Add Investigators
Choose from below:

Add the Chief Investigator (lead investigator for staff projects, or Principal Supervisor for student projects. NB. students should not be Chief Investigator, and should be added as Internal Investigator as per ‘What if it’s a student project?’)
Under the Chief Investigator (CI) section:
- Click ‘Add’
- Type in the surname of the Chief Investigator
- Hit search.
- Then hit the link
button next to their name, this will add that person.
Then, from the ‘Role’ drop down box:
- Choose Chief Investigator (if you are the lead investigator on a staff project)
- Choose Principal Supervisor (if the application is a student project)
Adding Internal Investigators (current SCU staff and SCU students)
To add an internal investigator:
- Select ‘Yes’ beside "Other Internal Investigators Involved?", a new section will be displayed which allows adding and editing internal investigators
- Click Add
in the Internal Investigators section
- Enter a surname. This can be a partial surname, do not enter an initial
- Click Search
- A list of SCU staff and students matching the search term will be displayed. If the investigator you are looking for does not appear in the search, please email research.irma@scu.edu.au with the following details:
Name (first name and surname)
Title
Gender (if not apparent)
School or Research Centre
Staff or student number (if known)
ORCID (if known)
Email address (students only)
An IRMA team member will create an account for the investigator, and advise you when this has been done.
- Click Link
beside the correct staff/student name or click Back to enter a new search term
- Select this person’s role from the Picklist
- Click ‘Save’
- Continue adding researchers until the entire list of Internal investigators (SCU staff and students) is complete.
- There is no need to complete the ‘Number of Internal Investigators’ field – this can stay at 0 (regardless of number in project team)
Tip: Get in touch with the Office of Research ( research.irma@scu.edu.au ) and tell them names of any external investigators so they can set up in advance (don’t leave this until you’re submitting the application)
- Select ‘Yes’ beside "Other External Investigators Involved?", a new section will be displayed which allows adding and editing external investigators
- Click Add
in the External Investigators section
- Enter a surname. This can be a partial surname, do not enter an initial
- Click Search
- A list of external investigators matching the search term will be displayed.
Do not click on the +Create button
as this will produce an error.
- If the investigator you are looking for does not appear in the search, please email research.irma@scu.edu.au with the following details:
Name (first name and surname)
Title
Email
Institution
City/Country
ORCID (if known)
An IRMA team member will create an account for the investigator, and advise you when this has been done.
- Click Link
beside the correct name or click Back to enter a new search term
- Click the pencil (edit)
on the right hand side of the row of the external investigator’s name
- Select this person’s role from the Picklist
- Click ‘Save’
- Continue adding as required until the entire list of External Investigators (non-SCU staff/students) is complete.
For student projects, follow the same process as Internal Investigators (above) except:
- SCU supervisor is added as Principal Supervisor (instead of Chief Investigator)
- Student is added as an Internal Investigator
The Principal Supervisor will submit/approve the application as per Submit application to the Ethics Office
The Ethics Manager will then notify the student via email that the application is ready for their approval.
The Student then follows the same steps as per Submit application to the Ethics Office.
- Within the Chief Investigator Details section, a School/Centre will be automatically populated.
- If the work unit you want your ethics application to be reported against is not the one shown in the Chief Investigator section, then please type the work unit you want reported in the field ('Investigator work unit attribution for project' free text field)
