MS Teams Headsets and Handsets

Headsets and Handsets

A handset is a component of a telephone that a user holds to the ear and mouth to receive audio through the receiver and speak to the remote party using the built-in transmitter.

A headset replaces the handset of your phone. Headsets provide a speaker and microphone that you wear on your head. Headsets do not require you to hold anything in your hand; they offer more mobility and freedom than standard handsets.

Recommended Handsets and Headsets

Handsets: Four models to choose from for different scenarios = Common area phone (Yealink MP54 Teams Edition); Personal Assistant Staff Phone (Yealink MP56 Microsoft Teams Edition); Executive phone (Yealink VP59 Teams Edition); TAFE and CHSC (Yealink MP58 Teams Edition)

Headsets: Each department is responsible for own headsets. A USB wired or a wireless headset that has teams button support and microphone noise suppression is recommended.

Please note: If a new headset or handset is required, Work units will be responsible for their procurement through the Finance system. Please speak to the person in your Work unit who usually orders office equipment and stationery.

Headset Device Settings and Audio Quality (including making a test call)

Check that your device (headset) is supported and configured correctly.

Note: Users with multiple speaker devices connected to their PC can choose to set a secondary device to ring in addition to their default speaker. For example, a user with a headset connected to the PC and desk speakers can choose to have both headset and desk speakers ring when a call comes in so that they don’t miss a call.
